“Math was always so daunting, and at my age, time is not on my side. I knew if I didn’t pass – that was it.”
Amy Klug, 48, graduate of De Anza’s Math Performance Success program.

Amy Klug
When her marriage of 27 years ended, Amy Klug headed to De Anza. She knew the biggest obstacle for her academic success would be math, so she started signed up for Math Performance Success. She found herself supported by a coordinated web of support services, and made use of it all: tutors, labs and advising. When she finished the three-course basic math sequence she said it changed her life.
“There is so much self confidence that comes from mastering something that had been frightening or daunting,” she said. “I know I can take care of myself now.”
Amy wants to earn an associate degree in a medical field, perhaps radiology, and she’s thinking about transferring to San Jose State for a bachelor’s degree.
